Ronald S. Weiss, M.D.


Dr. Ronald S. Weiss is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and founder of Chicago Eye Consultants. He is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who specializes in cataracts, diabetic eye care, glaucoma and other medical and surgical eye disorders. His expertise is cataract surgery.  As one of the busiest cataract surgeons in the Chicagoland area, Dr. Weiss performs complicated cataract surgeries, often referred by other ophthalmologists, and incorporates the latest technology and premium implants on qualified candidates.   


Dr. Weiss received his undergraduate degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Northwestern University with his medical degree. He completed his residency at the University of Chicago and is a proud member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has an academic appointment at Rush University Medical School where he teaches and performs surgery with the Ophthalmology Residents.  Dr. Weiss is also Chairman of Ophthalmology at MacNeal Hospital.  Dr. Weiss had been in private practice for 15 years before founding Chicago Eye Consultants in 2006.

Brian P. Larsen, M.D.

Larsen_Headshot_Resized.jpgDr. Brian P. Larsen, a Board Certified Vitreo-retinal surgeon, joined Chicago Eye Consultants in 2012. He specializes in diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases and conditions including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal artery and vein occlusions, retinal detachments, epiretinal membranes, and macular holes.

Dr. Larsen graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Illinois. He continued his education at the Rosalind Franklin University, North Chicago, Illinois where he earned a Master of Science in Applied Physiology followed by his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School. His surgical internship and ophthalmology residency was completed at RUSH University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Larsen continued his training with a vitreo-retinal surgery fellowship from the Medical College of Wisconsin. 

In addition to working at Chicago Eye Consultants, Dr. Larsen dedicates time to teaching medical students, residents and fellows.  He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Loyola University Medical Center and Hines VA, where he has won the Teacher of the Year Award.  He is also a Consulting Physician at Cook County Hospital.  Dr. Larsen is an active member in both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists.

Hreem N. Patel, M.D.


Dr. Hreem N. Patel, a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma Specialist, joined Chicago Eye Consultants in 2016.  Dr. Patel specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and surgical management of glaucoma, as well as cataracts, diabetic eye care and other disorders of the eye. 

Dr. Patel received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology degree from Washington University in St. Louis.  She completed medical school at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia and completed her residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago where she was Chief Resident.  Dr. Patel went on to complete her fellowship in glaucoma at the Moran Eye Center, University of Utah. 

Dr. Patel is an Associate Professor at Rush University where she helps further the education of future ophthalmologists.  She remains as adjunct clinical faculty at the University of Utah and participates in their outreach program with charity work both domestically and internationally.  She is a proud member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the American Glaucoma Society.   

Raymond H. Nootens, M.D.

L1007575.JPGDr. Raymond H. Nootens, a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, has been in private practice since 1974. He specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology which includes glaucoma, diabetic eye care and other medical eye disorders.

Dr. Nootens graduated with honors from the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy in 1966. He then graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1970. He completed his residency at Rush University Medical Center just before entering into private practice. Dr. Nootens served in the Armed Forces from 1970 to 1989, including both active and reserve duty. He received an honorable discharge from the reserves in 1989. In 1993, he  graduated from Illinois Benedictine College with a Master of Management Information Systems and Master of Business Administration. He is a member of the Illinois State Medical Society, Chicago Medical Society, Chicago Ophthalmologic Society and American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Amjad Z. Ahmad, M.D.

AhmadPhoto.jpgDr. Amjad Z. Ahmad, a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, joined Chicago Eye Consultants in 2007.  He specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive diseases of the eyelid, tear duct and orbit.

Dr. Ahmad graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of Michigan. Dr. Ahmad continued his education at the University of Michigan Medical School where he earned a Doctorate of Medicine Degree. He completed his internship at William Beaumont Hospital, in Michigan. His residency was completed at University of Michigan Hospitals.  He went on to complete a Fellowship in Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery at W.K. Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Michigan. 

Dr. Ahmad has been selected to Chicago Top Doctors and the Healthgrades honor roll. 

Anjali Tannan, M.D.


Dr. Anjali Tannan, a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and Cornea specialist, joined Chicago Eye Consultants in 2017. Dr. Tannan specializes in Refractive surgery, cataract surgery, anterior segment reconstruction, external diseases, corneal infections, and corneal transplants.

Dr. Tannan obtained both her Bachelor of Science and her Medical Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She then completed her internship and ophthalmology residency at Rush University Medical Center where she served as chief resident. She went on to pursue a fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases and Refractive Surgery at the Stein Eye Center.

Dr. Tannan is an Assistant Professor at Rush University Medical Center. She dedicates much of her time to resident and medical student education and was the recipient of the Golden Apple Teaching Award for Surgical Education in 2016. She also is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Cornea Society.

Kinzy K. Frizzle, O.D.


Dr. Kinzy Frizzle, a licensed Optometrist, joined Chicago Eye Consultants in 2016 and became a full-time member of our team in 2017.  Dr. Frizzle performs complete eye exams, refractive services, muscle balance, prism work and other specialized optometric services.  She has added a level of service to Chicago Eye Consultants by providing contact lens exams and fittings. She can educate patients and assist in making informed decisions about products or procedures that will best meet their visual needs. 

Dr. Frizzle graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a minor in Spanish from the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She continued her education at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry degree in May, 2015.


Dr. Frizzle has earned many academic honors and awards during her training including being elected into the Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society and the Tomb and Key Honors Society.
